Focused on Competing with Yourself

When you take pride in the fact that you’ve beaten your peers or adversaries, you do well to remember: you crossed an imaginary finish line, driving a different car, on a different track in different weather. The real race was always against yourself. And the peer you compare yourself with is not really your adversary, but your coach – because they inspired you to try harder. If you did not respect them, you would not have been spurred on to “beat them”.
